Release Date & Platforms
GTA 6 officially releases on Thursday, November 19, 2026 worldwide for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is the confirmed final release date — locked since November 2025 and backed by Take-Two’s $8.2 billion FY2027 revenue guidance tied directly to this date.
Yes — GTA 6 has been delayed twice. It was originally targeting a 2025 launch, then pushed to May 26, 2026, then again to November 19, 2026 in November 2025. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has since stated the game “won’t be delayed again” — and the company’s revenue forecast is legally tied to the November date, making a third delay extremely unlikely.
GTA 6 launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. There is no planned release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. A PC version is expected later — likely in 2027 or 2028 based on Rockstar’s history with GTA V and RDR2.
A PC version is confirmed to follow but no release date has been announced. Based on Rockstar’s track record — GTA V arrived on PC 18 months after console launch, RDR2 took 13 months — most analysts expect GTA 6 on PC in 2027 or early 2028. Do not expect a simultaneous PC launch.
No. GTA 6 is confirmed exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game’s map size, NPC density, 700+ enterable buildings, and next-gen visual fidelity require current-gen hardware — PS4 and Xbox One cannot run it. No last-gen release has been announced or is expected.
GTA 6 launches on a Thursday — November 19, 2026. This is a common strategy for major releases — mid-week launch generates press coverage and social buzz, while the following weekend gives players uninterrupted time to play. Take-Two CEO famously said “a lot of people will be calling in sick on November 19.”
Almost certainly not. Take-Two has publicly committed to November 19, 2026 and tied their legally-binding $8–$8.2 billion annual revenue guidance to this date. A third delay would force a public revenue revision — a serious legal and investor relations matter. The CEO has personally guaranteed no further delays on multiple earnings calls.
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026 worldwide — it’s a simultaneous global launch. The exact unlock time by time zone hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but Rockstar typically unlocks games at midnight local time or in waves by region. Check PlayStation Store or Xbox Store on launch day for your exact regional unlock time.
Price, Editions & Pre-Orders
Official pricing is confirmed on June 25, 2026 alongside pre-orders. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed the Standard Edition will be in the $70–$80 range. Credible leaks point to $69.99–$79.99 for Standard, ~$99 for Deluxe, and $150+ for Collector’s Edition. Bank of America analysts suggest $80 may reset AAA price norms industry-wide.
Based on credible leaks, GTA 6 will have 6 purchase tiers total — including Standard Edition ($70–$80), Deluxe Edition (~$99), Collector’s Edition ($150+), and two console bundle variants with digital codes only. Leaker DetectiveSeeds — who correctly predicted the pre-order date — has consistently reported this 6-tier structure.
GTA 6 pre-orders officially open on June 25, 2026 on PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. Physical copies will be available at GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and other major retailers. This announcement is expected to come with official pricing details and potentially Trailer 3.
Pre-ordering guarantees you a copy at launch and may include early access or bonus content depending on the edition. The Collector’s Edition in particular is expected to be very limited — pre-ordering early is advisable if you want the physical collectibles. Standard Edition copies will be widely available at launch without pre-ordering, but pre-ordering digital ensures instant access at midnight.
Unconfirmed — but leaked. An insider claims higher-priced editions will grant early access gameplay — similar to EA’s EA Play model or Call of Duty’s early access bundles. This has not been confirmed by Rockstar. The June 25, 2026 pre-order announcement is expected to clarify whether any edition includes early access.
For the Standard Edition — almost certainly not. Take-Two CEO confirmed the standard price in the $70–$80 range. The feared $100 base price appears unlikely. However, Deluxe Edition (~$99) and Collector’s Edition ($150+) are expected at higher price points. Bank of America analysts believe $79.99 is the most likely standard price point.
From June 25, 2026, GTA 6 pre-orders will be available at: PlayStation Store (digital PS5), Microsoft Store (digital Xbox), GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and other major retailers worldwide. Console bundle editions will reportedly only be available as digital codes — no disc included.
Map, Setting & World
GTA 6 is set in the fictional State of Leonida, based on modern-day Florida. The main city is Vice City, Rockstar’s reimagining of Miami. The wider state includes five additional regions: Leonida Keys (Florida Keys), Grassrivers (Everglades), Port Gellhorn (industrial port), Ambrosia (suburbs), and Mount Kalaga (national park). A second state called Gloriana (based on Georgia) is strongly rumored.
The GTA 6 map is estimated to be 1.5 to 2 times larger than GTA V’s map. GTA V’s full map was approximately 49 square miles — GTA 6 is expected to be between 73–100 square miles. With 6 confirmed regions spanning urban, tropical, swamp, industrial, suburban, and wilderness terrain, it’s the most geographically diverse GTA world ever built.
The main city in GTA 6 is Vice City — a fictional version of Miami, Florida. It features Art Deco beachfronts, neon nightlife, dense downtown skyscrapers, waterway canals, and the Vice City Metro. Vice City is significantly larger and more detailed than any previous GTA city, with 700+ enterable buildings confirmed.
Gloriana is not officially confirmed but strongly rumored. Evidence: in-game license plates in trailer footage read “Gloriana,” and Rockstar paid approximately $2,000 to reclaim visitgloriana.com after a fan registered it. Most analysts consider Gloriana highly likely to be a second playable state based on Georgia, bordering Leonida to the north.
Leaked figures suggest 700+ enterable buildings across the State of Leonida — including nightclubs, fully explorable shopping malls, restaurants, motels, pawn shops, office buildings, gun stores, fast food restaurants, and the Vice City Metro Station. This is a massive leap from GTA V, which had only a handful of accessible interiors.
This is rumored but unconfirmed. Leaks suggest an “evolving map” strategy where Rockstar adds new cities and regions via GTA Online updates post-launch — potentially including returning locations like Liberty City. This approach would be a first for an open-world game at this scale. No official announcement from Rockstar yet.
GTA 6’s Vice City shares its name and Miami inspiration with the original 2002 GTA: Vice City — but it’s a completely modern reimagining set in the present day rather than the 1980s. The city is dramatically larger, more detailed, and built for next-gen hardware. Think of it as Rockstar’s new interpretation of Miami rather than a direct sequel to the original.
Characters & Story
GTA 6 features dual protagonists — Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Lucia is GTA’s first female lead in a mainline game — a driven, resilient woman who served time in Leonida State Penitentiary. Jason is her partner, a former black ops soldier now running criminal operations in the Leonida Keys. Together they’re described as a modern Bonnie & Clyde.
Credible leaks suggest the GTA 6 campaign is 45–75 hours across 5 chapters plus a prologue: Prologue (2h) → Chapter 1 (6h) → Chapter 2 (13h) → Chapter 3 (16h) → Chapter 4 (22h) → Chapter 5 (16h). The story ending is reportedly set outside the fictional USA. Not officially confirmed — but even at 45 hours, it would be Rockstar’s longest main campaign ever.
Lucia Caminos is GTA’s first female protagonist in a mainline game. She’s street-smart and resilient — serving time in Leonida Penitentiary before teaming up with Jason. Leaked story details reveal her father was killed by a Cartel, making revenge her core motivation. Her special ability is a slow-motion precision shot for single-target elimination.
Jason Duval lives rent-free in the Leonida Keys, running criminal shakedowns for boss Brian Heder. Leaked story details reveal he was formerly a black ops soldier in Latin America — elite military training that shapes his aggressive combat style. His special ability is a multi-target tactical slow-motion mode similar to RDR2’s Deadeye system.
Yes. GTA 6 features a character wheel with three modes: Solo Lucia, Solo Jason, and Dual Control — where both characters operate simultaneously during heists and open-world missions. This is the most advanced dual-protagonist system in GTA history, building on GTA V’s three-character mechanic.
GTA 6 follows Lucia and Jason — a Bonnie & Clyde criminal duo navigating Vice City’s underworld. Leaked details reveal Lucia’s revenge story (father killed by Cartel), Jason’s military past, a temporary betrayal between the pair, and four main antagonists. The story spans 5 chapters across Leonida and reportedly ends outside the fictional USA — a series first.
Confirmed supporting characters include: Brian Heder (Jason’s crime boss in Leonida Keys), Boobie Ike, Cal Hampton, DreQuan Priest, Raul Bautista, and The Real Dimez. Each is connected to different criminal factions across Leonida. Four main antagonists are also confirmed via leaks, though their names haven’t been revealed.
GTA 6 is set in its own independent story — it is not a direct narrative sequel to GTA V. However, it exists in the same shared GTA universe. The universes in GTA games are loosely connected through tone, references, and the fictional USA setting, but you don’t need to have played GTA V to understand GTA 6’s story.
Gameplay & Features
Key confirmed and credibly leaked features include: dual protagonist system with Dual Control mode, RDR2’s “Greet / Threaten / Rob” NPC interaction system, 700+ enterable buildings, redesigned police AI and wanted system, ray tracing and volumetric clouds, dramatically increased NPC density, and a more personal character-driven narrative than any previous GTA.
Yes — GTA Online returns in GTA 6, built on a decade of lessons from GTA V Online. Rockstar has confirmed an expanded online component, though full details haven’t been revealed. Rumors point to an evolving map strategy where new cities are added via updates post-launch, potentially turning GTA 6 Online into a live-service platform that grows for years.
No official player count per session has been announced. GTA V Online supported up to 30 players per session. With next-gen hardware, GTA 6 Online could potentially support more — but Rockstar hasn’t confirmed a number. Expect an announcement closer to launch or with the GTA Online 2.0 reveal.
Almost certainly yes. Every mainline GTA game has featured cheat codes — from health and wanted level cheats to vehicle spawns and weather control. No official GTA 6 cheat codes have been revealed yet, but they will almost certainly exist. We’ll update our GTA 6 Cheats page the moment they’re confirmed at or after launch.
Rockstar has not officially confirmed first-person mode for GTA 6. GTA V introduced first-person mode in its PS4/Xbox One remaster in 2014. Given next-gen hardware and the detailed interiors, first-person mode in GTA 6 would be extraordinary — but it remains unconfirmed. It’s widely expected to return given its popularity in GTA V.
Confirmed vehicles from official trailers and cover art include the Sea Sparrow helicopter, various new cars, motorcycles, and speedboats. Trams are confirmed for Vice City transit. The cover art revealed multiple vehicle types across land, sea, and air. Full vehicle list will be revealed on our vehicles guide as more info drops.
Yes — GTA 6 features ray tracing, volumetric clouds, realistic reflections, and dramatically higher NPC and world density than any previous Rockstar title. Both trailers have shown photorealistic lighting, detailed character models, and complex environmental detail. Running exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it’s the best-looking GTA ever made by a significant margin.
Leaks, Trailers & News
In September 2022, a hacker leaked 90+ video clips from an early build of GTA 6. The footage revealed dual protagonists (Lucia and Jason), the Vice City and Florida setting, early dialogue system tests, and multiple missions in progress. Rockstar confirmed the leak was genuine. The hacker was later arrested. Nearly every major detail from the leak has since been officially confirmed by Rockstar.
As of June 2026, GTA 6 has had two official trailers: Trailer 1 (December 5, 2023) — which broke YouTube records — and Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025). A third trailer is widely expected around June 25, 2026 alongside the pre-order announcement. See our Trailer 3 guide for predictions.
GTA 6 Trailer 3 is expected around June 25, 2026 — the same day pre-orders open. Rockstar’s summer marketing campaign officially began after June 21, and fans widely expect Trailer 3 to accompany the pricing and edition reveal. It’s expected to focus on gameplay mechanics, story details, and Vice City world-building.
GTA 6’s official cover art was revealed on June 18, 2026 by Rockstar Games. The 9-panel collage features Lucia, Jason, Vice City’s neon skyline, the Sea Sparrow helicopter, and multiple supporting characters. Eagle-eyed fans also spotted what appears to be a reference to a GTA IV character on a license plate in the artwork.
Unconfirmed — but reports suggest Rockstar may skip review copies before launch to prevent story spoilers and early piracy. This would be unprecedented for a mainstream AAA release but consistent with protecting GTA 6’s 75-hour narrative. A day-one review embargo lift would generate enormous launch-day FOMO and likely boost sales. Not officially confirmed.
GTA 6’s total development budget is reported to exceed $2 billion USD across its 12+ year development cycle — making it the most expensive video game ever made. Take-Two has not officially confirmed the exact figure, but analysts and industry insiders have cited the $2 billion figure consistently since 2023.
GTA Online & Multiplayer
Rockstar has not announced plans to shut down GTA V Online after GTA 6 launches. GTA V Online has been running since 2013 and has a massive player base. It’s likely both will coexist for at least a few years, with player activity gradually migrating to GTA 6 Online over time. No shutdown date has been announced.
GTA 6 Online is expected to be included with the base game — not a separate free-to-play product. GTA V Online was bundled with GTA V and available as a standalone free-to-play title on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. Whether GTA 6 Online follows the same model hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Almost certainly yes. Shark Cards (in-game currency purchases) are a multi-billion dollar revenue stream for Take-Two — GTA Online generated over $1 billion in microtransaction revenue in a single year at its peak. Some form of premium in-game currency is expected in GTA 6 Online, though the exact implementation hasn’t been announced.
